The City Ski Break

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

Some holidays are meant for skiing, a week in the Alps with nothing to do other than enjoy the slopes and chill in the chalet. Sometimes though the skiing itch needs a quick scratch. We love City breaks, add an afternoon on the slopes and the city break becomes something quite special.

So what makes a City Ski Break? First it must be a city worthy of a city break without the skiing. It must be cool, cultural, interesting and accessible. There should be galleries, restaurants and a real urban vibe. Then it must have skiing incorporated into its DNA. We are not talking about a 2 hour drive for the day but access to slopes within sight of the city. Maybe even access as part of the tube network.

I am just back from doing a recce of our first city ski break offering; Oslo. The whole group enjoyed the sights and sounds of Oslo city centre. We went on a Fjiord boat trip and had a meal and a drink or two. The next day I took my godson and his brother along with my son to XXXX resort where we skied and boarded the slopes and played about in the park. Meanwhile my wife and our hosts went on a cultural tour visiting the outdoor folk museum. The perfect combination for us all to spend time together.
